Looking for standards-based professional learning? ideastream offers a wealth of professional learning opportunities.

WVIZ/PBS’s Educational Services Department provides a wide array of Professional Learning opportunities to thousands of educators in over 200 school districts in an eleven county area in Northeast Ohio. WVIZ/PBS’s technology training services can be tailored to a district’s needs from novice to the scholar and can be provided in the teaching labs of WVIZ/PBS ideastream, in your school district, or via Distance Learning. WVIZ/PBS provides the availability of graduate credit for workshops that meet university requirements.

June 10-14:  The Big Dig will allow teachers to work on an archeological dig alongside an archaeologist.  Attempt to uncover artifacts from Rockefeller’s mansion and learn about how they were used in the early 1900’s.  Visit Rockefeller’s grave site, The Western Reserve Historical Society, Lake View Cemetery and much, much more. 
July 25 (changed from July 17th): Learn how to use mapping and graphing skills to chart your dig site.  See how to make history, math, science, and technology come alive.

The physical, social, emotional, intellectual, financial, and behavioral, consequences related to the misuse and addictive use of alcohol and other drugs represents the single greatest negative impact on the quality of life in America today.  Yet as pervasive as the problem has been and continues to be, few people have a working understanding of “America’s #1 public health issue.” This workshop will provide for participants a basic foundational understanding of alcohol and other drug use, their history, the risks and consequences, what addiction is and is not, whose most at risk, and how to intervene with the user, their family and the systems (school, community, etc.) of which they are a part.

June 18: Bring or receive an iPad and review or learn its operation.  Discover amazing ways to integrate the iPad into everyday teaching.  Learn about Zoo exhibits and resources available for teachers. Get the inside scoop on the animals and the role they play in global conservation and science. Learn how to capture and create presentations on your iPad.  Create collaborative teams in which you will outline a practical education application of the iPad.  Explore the zoo and much, much more!
June 19-24: From home, meet with your team periodically using the FaceTime app on your iPad and work on your project.
June 25: Present your project via the iPad in front of your classmates. See how to share your presentations with others.

Cost: *$205 (includes $15 iTunes gift card, lunch, bottled water, and admission to the zoo and rainforest)
*add $499 to receive the 4th generation iPad, or $329 to receive the iPad Mini.

One graduate credit available for through Ashland University or the University of Akron for an additional $150.
