County Executive Ed FitzGerald and Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson announced this afternoon that the new convention center is set to open earlier than planned, and under budget.
County Executive Ed FitzGerald announced today that the convention center is set to open on July 1, next year – two months earlier than planned. He hopes this early opening will set the tone for other construction projects.
“What we’re hoping that this is going do is not just bring great news for this project, but it’s really, we hope, setting a standard for what people should expect for major public projects,” FitzGerald says.
Nineteen conventions are already booked for the convention center. One of its first events will be the Senior Games, which FitzGerald says is expected to bring in $35 million for the Cleveland area.
