Hopkins And Cleveland Considering Fees On Transport Vehicles At Airport

[shutterstock.com]

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is looking to increase revenue.

Parking rates are going up two dollars at all airport parking facilities starting May 1 st. The last increase was in 2016.

Cleveland City Council members will discuss a per trip fee on transport services bringing travelers to and from the airport during Wednesday's Transportation Committee meeting.

Hopkins had about $720 dollars in bond debt at the end of 2016 and already charges airlines a per passenger fee that’s higher than the fees at airports in Chicago, Detroit or Indianapolis.

The fee on transport services would be one alternative to increasing those airline charges.

Officials at city council and Hopkins declined to say which companies would be subject to the fee, how large it would be or how it would be collected.

There is no ordinance in front of council.
