This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Riders, the more than 400 black and white Americans who risked their lives for simply traveling together on buses and trains as they journeyed through the Deep South. And, American Experience: The Freedom Riders chronicles this chapter of American history that stands as testament to the accomplishment of youth and what can result from the incredible combination of personal conviction and the courage to organize against all odds.
The Freedom Riders was screened at Case Western Reserve University on Sept. 30, 2011, followed by a conversation with two of the original freedom riders, Ms. Diane Nash and the Reverend Dr. C.T. Vivian. View the conversation with the riders below. Download the event program.
